Scandinavian scent

Our Scandie friends know how to make winter feasts, because they are....well Scandies.

I have a cook book written by Trine Hahnemmann which i use every year during winter time and my favorite recipe is the one with the crisp cinnamon cookies that are so easy to make and you will be the domestic goddess of the week.

I give you the recipe, follow exactly.

Crisp Cinnamon Cookies
65 pieces

you will need
for the cookies:

375g plain flour, plus more to dust
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp finely grated unwaxed lemon zest
125g light soft brown sugar
250g cold butter cut into small pieces
1 large egg beaten

for the topping:

2 tsp ground cinnamon

50g white sugar
1 egg beaten

Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl and add the zest and sugar. Rub in the butter until coarse crumbs form. Work in the egg, then knead on a lightly floured surface for two minutes, wrap in cling film and chill for one hour.

Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/gas mark 6. Sprinkle the dough with flour and roll out thinly. Cut out shapes, keep them to 5-6cm. Place on a lined baking tray. In a bowl mix the cinnamon and sugar and brush each cookie with egg. Sprinkle with the cinnamon mix. Bake for 9-10 min, until golden, then cool on a wire rack. Store and keep for up to four weeks.

Good luck and bon-appetit.

Love, K.

PS. cocoandsilk will be traveling to the north of Greece for the next 5 days so the next few posts will be about the new year celebrations in my birth-town of Thessaloniki and God they know how to eat, drink and dance.

Make my Friday, Xanthou str. Kolonaki

Xanthou street is a tiny little road in the heart of Kolonaki area.
I could also say that it is one of the most sophisticated commercial streets not because of the location but mostly because for a moment you have that feeling of walking somewhere in central Europe.

I had an early walk and the shops were still empty or closed (my favorite kind of thing, especially during Christmas days).

Here are some of the best shopping choices (there are only shopping options in Xanthou str.) and if you do your shopping from here leave the coffee and the lunch and go home to have 'two good eggs' (this is the name of an incredible coffee shop in Sydney Australia witch is totally inrelative with today's post but.....ok), because your credit cards are gonna need a loooong sleep to rest for a while.

Dimitris Dassios  is one of the most active fashion designers, you can also check his online store.

'Passion Alley' , very playful, very lalala, very nice window guys...

I am sure you all know Diane von Furstenberg, i own a few pieces  and i adore them. Classic with a style.

Spice House upstairs, Rosso downstairs, the choice is yours to make

Marc by Marc Jacobs, words are unnecessary

Benia Mitropanou, i like the boho style of this boutique and she always has lots of ethnic accessories, coming from her travels?

MCM, for leather goods, this a well known German firm.

Beautiful Xanthou street.

Celebrating in Athens

We are a breath before Christmas and like almost every year i realize that i really wouldn't rather be anywhere else but here.

There is a thing about this city, it isn't certainly the most beautiful city in the world, and it was never easy to live in, but you see Athens has this decadent charm especially in the winter when the light is not always that strong, and the nights are wet and foggy, i like to wander in the streets
with my daughter and my camera and just have pictures of the Athenian roads.

Here are my photos from last night, i hope you like them.

Love, K.

Penelope and Zoe

It was a wonderful cold and sunny Sunday and we walked down to Plaka to find my friend Penelope who together with Zoe had a presentation of their jewelry collection
in a local wine bar, the 'wine point'.

I chose to visit early before  other people  arrive cause i wanted to have some photos and have a relaxed talk.

The girls are so very talented and i could not resist to have a piece of their amazing 2014 charm - jewelry.

I strongly believe that young people in Greece are designing unique pieces and we are so lucky to have them in prices that are so, so affordable.

Penelope Kallirosi, Zoe Frantzeskou, thank you girls for everything and also thank the 'wine point' for the hospitality.

I let you with some photos to enjoy.

Love, K.

Make my Friday, Anagnostopoulou str. Kolonaki

It is Friday and like every Friday we go for a walk to the beautiful neighborhoods of Athens.

Today especially for you my lovely fashionistas we will wander uptown to the narrow and sic Anagnostopoulou str.

Christmas is almost here and for those of you who wish to make your shopping, this street offers a variety of boutiques as long as you are loaded enough.
But then again we can all enjoy the walk shopping or less shopping.

'Touch and Feel' this cute little place is located in the beginning of Anagnostopoulou str. and it is really amazing, believe me.

'Fenalie' for selected Christmas decoration

'Liana Camba' i really like this shop and the clothes, minimal and stylish.

'Betina' for those of you who wish to blow the budjet, I'm with you...

'Camper' for the love of comfort

'Bespoke Athens', please tell me how is it possible to resist to a gentleman dressed like this???

'Nora's deli' now, this is surprise, a small deli between the luxury boutiques, i like it...

'Matchbox' this is a very cute boutique with interesting choices, i used to shop from here...oh, happy days...

'Zilly' is one of my favorite shops, period.

I don't know about you but after all this shopping i'm tired and my wallet is empty, time for a cocoa.

Have a wonderful weekend ....and don't forget to love and smile and share.

Love, K.
